Lecturer resigns from board over halls sale

A lecturer has resigned from Manchester Metropolitan University's board of governors following its decision to sell two halls of residence.

Governors have voted to sell Needham and Greystoke halls, which house 320 students, because it would cost £3.5 million to modernise them.

Law and languages lecturer Walter Cairns said the decision would force students into expensive private accommodation.
