NUS rejects top-up option
The National Union of Students is dismayed that vice-chancellors are considering top-up fees as a possible income stream for higher education. The NUS said that higher fees, one of four options in a funding options report from Universities UK, would deter applicants.
Teenage mothers get study cash incentive
Teenage mothers are to get £3 million to help them stay in full-time education and training. The money will pay for childminders for teenage mothers in care or with little family support.
Sainsbury announces design council members
Science minister Lord Sainsbury today announced three new members of the Design Council. They are: Lord Freyberg, a cross-bench member of the House of Lords and a sculptor; Alastair MacDonald, president of the British Computer Society; Richard Seymour, a product designer and past president of British Art and Design Direction.
