Wendy Alexander, Scotland's minister for enterprise and lifelong lifelong learning, had firsthand experience of the University of Abertay, 'Big Brother' technology, which it is hoped will boost Scotland's thriving computer games industry.
Ms Alexander opened the Dundee university £1.6 million international centre for computer games and virtual entertainment. It includes a laboratory kitted out like a teenager's bedroom with games consoles.
A two-way mirror allows researchers to monitor the games-players. Remote and head-mounted eye trackers measure pupil dilation and blink rate, so that researchers can assess which parts of the game are being played.
A questionnaire measures mood, such as anger, frustration and energetic stimulation, and checks mood before and after game play.
