The University of Wales has awarded honorary degrees to: fashion designer Mary Quant; Jordi Pujol , president of the autonomous government of Catalonia; Sir Brian Smith , vice-chancellor of the University of Cardiff; Ian Cameron , vice-chancellor of the University of Wales College of Medicine; Rees Davies , Chichele professor of medieval history and fellow of All Souls College, Oxford; and actress Judi Dench .
Liverpool John Moores University has awarded honorary fellowships to: sculptor Anthony Cragg ; Andreas Whittam Smith , founding editor of The Independent and president of the British Board of Film Classification; Vincent Burke , radio broadcaster and founder of Burke Ford Insurance; Janet Finch , vice-chancellor of Keele University and leader of the Universities UK project on equal opportunities in universities; Lorna Muirhead , president of the Royal College of Midwives; Anne Merriman , managing director of Hospice Africa; Roger Phillips , radio producer and presenter; Tom Bloxham , chairman of Urban Splash; John Peel , broadcaster and writer; and Colin Roberts , former postgraduate dean of the UK Public Health Laboratory Service.
The University of London will award honorary degrees to: Lord Briggs of Lewes , former provost of Worcester College, Oxford and former chancellor of the Open University; Sir Colin Dollery , senior consultant to GlaxoSmithKline and former dean of the Royal Postgraduate Medical School; Mary Douglas , emeritus professor at Northwestern University; Sir Roger Gibbs , former chairman of the Wellcome Trust; Albie Sachs , justice in the Constitutional Court of South Africa; and writer Muriel Spark .
Nick Millard , of the University of Southampton and the Natural Environment Research Council's Southampton Oceanography Centre, has been awarded the Lord Lloyd of Kilgerran prize by the Foundation for Science and Technology.
