The Institute of Biology , in London, has elected the following honorary fellows: Sir James Armour , formerly of the University of Glasgow; Derek Burke , former vice-chancellor of the University of East Anglia; Gordon Conway , president of the United States Rockefeller Foundation; and Sir David Hopwood , of the John Innes Centre in Norwich.
It has also elected the following fellows: Mary Bownes , head of the institute of cell and molecular biology at the University of Edinburgh; David Donaldson , of East Surrey Hospital; Tim Harrison , of University College London; Guy Poppy , of the University of Southampton; Joseph Roulston , of the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh; and Nikolai Zhelev , of Cyclacel, Dundee.
The National Academy of Engineering , in the United States, has elected the following as foreign members: Sir Eric Ash , vice-president of the Royal Society; Sir Peter Hirsch , emeritus professor of the University of Oxford; and Felix Weinberg , emeritus professor of Imperial College, London.
Helen Fielding , reader in physical chemistry at King's College, London, has won the Royal Society of Chemistry 's Marlow medal.
Issaka Ndekugri , of the University of Wolverhampton, has won first prize in the construction law category of the annual literary awards run by the Chartered Institute of Building .
Danielle Schreve , a Royal Society research fellow in the geography department at Royal Holloway, University of London, and Mark White , an archae-ology lecturer at the University of Durham, have been jointly awarded the R. M. Baguley prize by the Prehistoric Society .
