Students attending the London May Day demonstration as peaceful protesters were angry that the actions of a few violent individuals reflected badly on them, said Scott Rice, president of the University of London Union. 'Most of us regret the fact that the demonstration turned into pandemonium,' he said. 'Students have a proud record of campaigning on issues beyond education, but a lot of people now look down on all demonstrators as criminals.' About 100 protesters rallied near ULU in Malet Street at lunchtime, and police defused a smoke bomb in the ULU building.
