Dons snub QAA review teams
Lecturers have delivered a blow to the Quality Assurance Agency’s regime by refusing to sign up as academic reviewers. A motion passed at the annual council of the Association of University Teachers in Scarborough calls on members to“withdraw from and not to join review teams”.
"Stop opposing ILT," says minister
Education minister Baroness Blackstone implored the AUT to drop its opposition to the Institute of Learning and Teaching. Council members are to debate plans for a rival professional accreditation body in Scarborough today. Lady Blackstone told the conference that although she was disappointed the ILT had not created a high profile within the profession, the government did not want a fragmented system.
Unions spur training revolution
Thousands of workers have taken up training courses under a union-inspired “quiet revolution” in the past year, new figures showed today. About 2,000 union officials trained by the Trades Union Congress have encouraged 50,000 people to take up some kind of work-based instruction.
NHS fails to get research credit
