Canadian project will link technology research
Canada’s Foundation for Innovation is to invest C$15.9 million (£7 million) in a project led by Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, to develop a national advanced microchip research and design network that will link more than 250 Canadian technology researchers at 32 universities and research institutions in nine provinces. The Ontario Innovation Trust Fund is also investing C$6.2 million.
California widens access for minorities
The University of California is to guarantee places for the leading 12.5 per cent of students from each California high school. The “dual admissions policy” is aimed at boosting enrolment of ethnic minorities at campuses like UCLA and Berkeley, which has remained sluggish since the university became the first US institution to ban affirmative action in 1995.
