Good news for Lancashire - the 2002 Good Pub Guide has found that it offers the cheapest beer in the land. Beer costs an average £1.68 in Lancashire, 24p below the national average. At the University of Lancaster's student union, beer is £1.60 a pint, below the average cost for the county but more than the bars in town, which offer beer at £1 a pint. Trish McGrath, president of the student union, said:
"Maybe the university should use cheap beer as a recruitment tool."
