Keele University vice chancellor, professor Brian Fender, HEFCE chief executive in waiting, has revealed one of the high-powered doctrines he regards as crucial to the development of higher education. "Managing change is all about luck," he told a University of North London conference on the crisis in college and university management. "Actually it's one of my acronyms," he confessed. Fender's Luck involves Learning, Understanding, Communication and Knowledge.
