The election of Graeme Catto as the president of the General Medical Council is a double victory for King's College, London.
Professor Catto is vice-principal at King's and dean of the Guy's, King's and St Thomas's hospitals' Medical and Dental School. Meanwhile, Nairn Wilson, president of the General Dental Council, heads the Dental Institute at the college.
Professor Catto will have his work cut out. The GMC is undergoing major reform, and complaints against doctors are rocketing. Professor Catto is determined to link educational requirements to the standards the public expects of doctors.
