The revelation that David Hopkins (In the news) saved Chris Woodhead from falling off a cliff reminds The Diary of another sporting association.
Mr Woodhead, the former chief inspector of schools, was educated alongside John Randall, the former chief executive of the Quality Assurance Agency. As boys, they both attended the Wallington County Grammar School for Boys in Croydon. Both men still share a hobby - running.
