The British women's curling team, who last week collected gold at the Winter Olympics, were given their winning edge by a team of academics from the University of Edinburgh. Led by Jane Blackford, the team worked with the women to monitor their technique. They developed a device that uses sensors in the curlers' brushes to measure the speed and direction of the brushes and looked at how consistent the women were at sweeping.
