Brussels, 03 Sep 2002

The European Commission's Research DG has announced a call for tenders for a study on training programmes in ethics in research established in scientific faculties across Europe.

The European Commission intends to launch an invitation to tender within the framework of the European research area and the implementation of the science and society action plan ethics committees.

The purpose of this study is to gather information on and analyse training programmes on ethics offered in scientific faculties that exist in the European Union, the candidate countries and other countries associated to the Framework programme through an analytical and comparative approach.

The contract will contribute to the benchmarking of educational systems in Europe that have integrated ethics in scientific faculties' educational programmes.

Both the European research area and the science and society action plan stress the need of favouring the development of research and technology policies which will be responsive to societal and ethical concerns.
