A Leeds University student has been treated to a surprise 21st birthday party at one the country's largest sewage works.
Colin Pitts, a course tutor in environmental bio-geoscience, organised the trip to the Knostrop waste-water treatment works before student Joanne Bushell revealed that the visit would coincide with her birthday. He teamed up with Yorkshire Water to organise the surprise event.
When Ms Bushell and her fellow third-year degree students arrived at the plant, they were presented with a birthday cake, hats, balloons and streamers.
Ms Bushell told the Yorkshire Evening Post : "A sewage works wasn't exactly what I had in mind for my 21st birthday but it was a great laugh and I really enjoyed it."
