Student activists at Salford University are trying to prevent the youth leader of the British National Party from attending lectures.
Tony Wentworth, a politics undergraduate at Salford, has taken over as leader from former Leeds University student Mark Collett, who was expelled from the party after a Channel 4 documentary exposed him as an admirer of Hitler.
Students from Salford's Anti-Nazi League and other political groups are staging pickets around the campus. They are asking fellow students to sign a petition to get Mr Wentworth removed from the university.
They are also calling for students to boycott lectures attended by BNP supporters and asking staff not to teach them for fear that the university will be used as a base to spread racist and fascist propaganda.
Steph Maguire, representing the students union, said that Salford operated a "no-platform" policy to racists, and meetings were due to be held in the next few days to discuss what action could be taken.
