A student who took a BMW from a dealership as part of a university rugby club initiation has been banned from driving for a year.
Jonathon Cummins, 22, from Dundee University, led police on a high-speed chase after taking the car from a garage in the city, crashing it and fleeing the scene.
Cummins admitted charges of careless driving, driving without insurance, stealing a car key and taking a car without the owner's consent at Dundee Sheriff Court. This week, he was sentenced to 200 hours community service. Sheriff Richard Davidson warned Cummins that any further offending would land him in jail.
