Almost 700 university academics have signed a public declaration against the occupation of Iraq. Organiser Malcolm Levitt, a chemist from the University of Southampton, said the group was calling for the replacement of the occupying troops with a multinational peacekeeping force. But Professor Levitt said he had been disappointed with the response from the British academic community. "The response has been miserable compared with the US."
