Sir Alec Jeffreys, Royal Society Wolfson research professor of genetics at Leicester University and pioneer of genetic fingerprinting, was presented with a lifetime achievement award at the Pride of Britain awards this week. Receiving his award from actor David Jason, he said: "It's my baby. I feel like a doting father. The technology has impacted on heaven knows how many people in a very direct and personal way."
