A 15-year study of haemophiliacs by the Medical Research Council has proved conclusively that HIV is the cause of AIDS. MRC researchers believe the findings will silence critics who have argued that this was not the case. The study showed that HIV-positive haemophiliacs were ten times more likely to die than those who had not contracted the virus.
