Napier University students are going to work in an egg with the opening of a £30 million redeveloped business and law campus. The Craiglockhart campus features an egg-shaped 200-seat lecture theatre whose shape improves acoustics and avoids the need for internal columns. The timber-framed, titanium-clad construction was one of 24 projects on the Wood Awards shortlist announced last month. The campus blends futuristic design with 19th-century elegance. The original building was a hydropathic spa, which became a hospital for shell-shocked soldiers during the First World War. The poets Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon both recuperated at the spa
