NORTHAMPTON

University College Northampton's learner-centred ethos enticed Peter Bush (pictured), its new pro rector (academic), from his post as head of regional collaboration and partnerships at the Open University. His new job oversees curriculum development and quality assurance.

"Students are first and foremost what we are here for. We are looking to recruit from different backgrounds and ensure that support is tailored to individuals," he said.

Caroline Stainton has been appointed director of learning and teaching.

Maxine Rhodes joins as director of educational partnerships and lifelong learning. David Jones joins as associate dean (academic development) for the Arts School.

Chris Newbold becomes head of the new division of media, English and culture.

Philip Garner joins as professor of education focusing on professional development.

Birgit Rathje Vale joins the School of Health's occupational therapy unit.

Ian Beckett has been appointed a chair in history.

Robert Gunn , sociology lecturer, joins York University's department of social policy and social work.

Helen Rainbird , sociology professor, moves to Birmingham University's Business School.

Charles Insley moves to Canterbury Christ Church University College.
