关于 Manhattan College
Manhattan College is a Roman Catholic college in New York City.
One of under 200 US institutions founded prior to the American Civil War, it was established as the all-male Academy of the Holy Infancy in 1853, a decade before obtaining its present title, which it has retained despite its move from Manhattan to the Riverdale area of the Bronx in 1922. It is located between the Hudson River and Van Cortlandt Park, NYC’s third biggest. Initially a commuter college, it is now primarily residential, but the city centre remains easily accessible by public transport.
A private Catholic institution in the Lasallian tradition with six schools in total, a high proportion of its students are from ethnic minorities.
Engineering, business, civil engineering, biology, management and childhood education are among the most popular undergraduate programmes, though Manhattan also runs a number of courses for postgraduates.
Its most famous alumnus is either Rudy Giuliani, the lawyer-turned-politician and two-term mayor of New York City briefly dubbed “America’s mayor” for his well-received speeches in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, or James Patterson, the writer who has sold more than 300 million books from the Alex Cross, Maximum Ride, and Daniel X series. Chang Myon, twice Prime Minister of South Korea, and Glenn Hughes, a founding member of Village People, also went to Manhattan College.
