关于 Saint Vincent College
Located on a scenic 200-acre campus in the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania, Saint Vincent College (SVC) is home to students studying at both undergraduate and graduate level.
The college was established by Boniface Wimmer in 1846 and it became the first Benedictine college in the United States. It was as a result of the help given by a strong community of Benedictine monks at the Saint Vincent monastery that the college got its name and it grew very quickly, maintaining the ideals and character of Benedictine education.
SVC offers nearly 50 undergraduate majors and 10 graduate programs through four major academic schools – the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government, the School of Humanities and Fine Arts, the Herbert W. Boyer School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Computing, and the School of Social Science, Communication and Education – each of which has its own Dean.
The university campus is located on the southwest side of Latrobe, a small town in the Pittsburg Metropolitan Area. The picturesque area is perfect for outdoor pursuits and many of the university clubs and organisations incorporate the local area in their activities. Seasonal events include the Latrobe Fourth of July celebrations, the Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival, and the Ligonier Highland Games.
Among the notable former SVC graduates are biotechnologist Herb Boyer, professional basketball player Daniel Santiago, former Archbishop of Milwaukee Rembert Weakland, and actor Daniel Hugh Kelly, who is best known for playing Mark McCormick in ABC TV series Hardcastle and McCormick.
