King's College London has been awarded the contract to host another Medical Research Council research centre, taking the total number of MRC centres hosted by the university to five.
The latest centre, specialising in organ transplantation, will be directed by Steven Sacks. It will bring together experts in basic biology and transplant medicine to focus on research that will deliver more rapid and effective methods of diagnosis and treatment.
Meanwhile, the Wolfson Foundation pledged £4 million towards the new King's Clinical Neuroscience Institute.
The KCNI has been billed as one of the most ambitious projects in clinical neuroscience in the past 50 years. It will comprise 3,600 square metres of clinical, teaching and laboratory space.
