- Leeds University has made a number of senior appointments: James Dignan , formerly professor of criminology and restorative justice at Sheffield University, becomes chair of comparative criminology and criminal justice; Efrat Tseelon , formerly at Dublin University, becomes chair in fashion theory; John Divers , formerly at Sheffield University, becomes chair in philosophy; Jaafar Elmirghani , former chair of optical communications at the University of Wales Swansea, becomes chair of communication networks and systems; and Dagmar Schiek , former chair of European law at Oldenburg University, becomes chair of European law and director of the centre for European law and legal studies. Ian Goodall , formerly at the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust, becomes assistant director (research management) in the faculty of medicine and health.
- Leeds College of Music has announced the appointment of Philip Meaden , currently principal of Morley College, London, as its new principal. He will take up the post in April 2008 on the retirement of the current principal, David Hoult.
- Napier University's vice-principal for academic development, Peter Easy , has been promoted to senior vice-principal. Dr Easy will oversee the university's faculties of health, life and social sciences, faculty of engineering, computing and creative industries and the Business School, as well as its international college.
