A £15 million Sports Technology Institute has been launched at Loughborough University. The institute, which is funded with the East Midlands Development Agency, will develop technology to assist the country's athletes preparing for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Mike Caine, the institute director, said: "This facility will enable us to develop cutting-edge training equipment, coaching aids and customised clothing and footwear to support the country's elite athletes and sports governing bodies."
