Academics have come up with a new way to investigate where and when students do their work. Sheffield Hallam University's Learning and Teaching Institute has recruited 15 students to a two-week research project. The students will submit by e-mail and text regular updates on their whereabouts to a "microblogging" site. "We're hoping to find out where our learners are studying, what helps them, and what hinders them, in a real-time context," said Liz Aspden, senior lecturer in curriculum innovation.
