Multimillion-pound animal science and nutrition research facilities at the Centre for Dairy Research have opened at the University of Reading. The centre is one of only three in the European Union to conduct studies that follow the food chain from animal feed through to health outcomes for humans. Judith Batchelor, a director at the supermarket giant Sainsbury's who attended the opening of the facilities, said: "This £5.3 million investment at Reading could not come at a better time for the UK food and farming industry. Customers are more interested than ever in where their food comes from and how it is sourced, with the health and sustainability agendas being top of their list of concerns."
