A group of marine scientists has been awarded £462,000 to explore the world's deepest undersea volcanoes and find out what lives in a "lost world" 5km beneath the surface of the Caribbean. A team of researchers led by Jon Copley, a lecturer at the University of Southampton's School of Ocean and Earth Science, will explore the Cayman Trough, on the Caribbean seafloor between Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, using funding from the Natural Environment Research Council.
