Research degree-awarding powers have been granted to Edge Hill University. It will now be able to offer and award its own MPhil and PhD degrees, just two years after it gained university status. "Research is what makes universities unique," said vice-chancellor John Carter. "We have acted as pioneers in research outside traditional academic disciplines, such as widening access to higher education. To be one of the first new universities in the UK to achieve this is a major accomplishment."
