A new dairy centre for the study of cattle health and welfare has been launched by the University of Liverpool. The university's veterinary school has signed a deal with supermarket giant Tesco, the first major collaboration it has made with a retailer, to set up what it hopes will become a "national resource centre for farmers". Rob Smith, who heads Liverpool's livestock health and welfare division, said: "It is really important that retailers and producers work together to deliver good animal welfare that meets consumer expectations."
