The University and College Union has criticised the University of Plymouth for putting £2.5 million towards a city sports centre at the same time as it is consulting on cutting more than 220 jobs. The union said the decision to invest in the £46.5 million Life Centre in Central Park was "insensitive". Mike Sheaff, UCU branch chairman, said: "It underlines the case that there is no need to consider compulsory redundancies."
