A vaccine to protect farmed salmon against viral and bacterial infections is being developed at the University of Aberdeen. "Understanding the key stages of fish and their immune systems is absolutely essential for the aquaculture industry - which is a global and highly competitive sector," said Chris Secombes, head of the School of Biological Sciences, who is leading the four-year study. "What we want to work out is exactly when the immune system develops, as this is completely unknown."
