The UK is suffering from ephebiphobia - the fear of young people.
That is the message that will be delivered by psychologist and television presenter Tanya Byron at her inaugural lecture as professor of public understanding of science at Edge Hill University. Professor Byron, who is also chancellor of the university, will examine how difficult it is for young people to have aspirations when they are constantly told how bad they are. "We appear to feel threatened by a phase in life that is all about challenging and identity formation," she said. The lecture will be held on 24 March.
