An employer-led education and training project at the University of Salford has won praise from the Confederation of British Industry. The university's employer-engagement team was set up last year with £3 million in funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England. Simon Caunt, the CBI's assistant regional director in the North West, praised the team for supporting businesses during the economic downturn. "Salford's single point of contact for companies and its excellent business-development team are making it easier for employers to tap into the university's commercial expertise," he said.
