Newcastle scientists have created a battery that could last up to ten times longer than an ordinary cell battery - because it is powered by air. It is hoped that the new battery, with increased capacity, could lead to a long-lasting generation of electric cars, mobile phones and laptops. The four-year project, led by Keith Scott, professor of electrochemical engineering at Newcastle University, reaches its halfway point next month.
