Staff and students at the University of Strathclyde were due to take part in a second protest on 23 June against management plans to axe jobs and cut departments. About 140 voluntary redundancies have already been announced, and the University and College Union and fellow union Unite expect more to follow. The unions have criticised the consultation process and claimed that the university has significant financial surplus and cannot justify the cutbacks.
