The lives of city-dwellers may be improved by the work of a new international centre at the London School of Economics. LSE Cities is funded by a 60-month, £1 million-a-year endowment from Deutsche Bank. The centre, located in the department of sociology, will develop programmes of research, education and outreach that cut across disciplinary boundaries. About 75 per cent of the world's population will live in cities by 2050, the institution said.
