A series of scholarships has been launched by the University of Sheffield on the back of a donation from a crime writer and former student. The donation from Lee Child, a Sheffield graduate and visiting professor at the university, will fund 25 undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships, worth £2,000 each. Professor Child, who studied law at Sheffield, is the author of the Jack Reacher novels, based on the exploits of a retired American military policeman. He said: "My generation went to university for free, and I believe in paying things forward."
