A Welsh university has recorded lower energy usage than any other higher education institution in the UK, new figures show. Data for 2007-08 published by Estates Management Statistics show that Swansea Metropolitan University used less energy per square metre than any other. It also produced the best carbon reduction figures in Wales, and came in the top 14 in this category country-wide. David Warner, the vice-chancellor, said the figures were down to staff at the institution, who he said were "not only contributing to the greater planetary issues but also saving quite a lot of money".
