Researchers at the University of Aberdeen have called for volunteers to help them understand exactly how fruit and vegetables protect against cancer and heart disease. The study will look at the impact of increasing the daily intake of a variety of fruit and vegetables, but to do this it needs unhealthy subjects. The Aberdeen researchers are looking for 60 male and female volunteers aged between 40 and 44 who currently eat a diet low in fresh fruit and veg. Charles Bestwick, researcher in apoptosis and cell functionality, and leader of the study, said: "The intention is to build a clear picture of the daily diet we should be eating to protect us against chronic disease."
