Work is under way to create a three-dimensional "Wikipedia" of art at the University of Surrey. Researchers are paving the way for works to be recorded in a 3D format that will enable people to view the art works on their computer screens from every possible angle. The technology promises to offer art enthusiasts a more detailed and comprehensive view than if they were within arm's reach of the real thing. The project, funded by the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme, is a collaboration of experts from computer science, the arts and business drawn from across the university, plus 18 other partners.
