Celebrations for the 125th anniversary of the foundation of Edge Hill University focused on its ongoing commitment to widening access to higher education. The university marked its anniversary last week with celebrations in Liverpool, where it started life as a teacher training college for women in 1885, before moving to Ormskirk in 1933. John Cater, vice-chancellor, said Edge Hill retained its commitment to helping "able and intelligent individuals who might not otherwise enter higher education".
