The University of Liverpool is involved in a public-private partnership that tested a vaccine for rotavirus infection in Malawi. Nigel Cunliffe, reader in medical microbiology, said the trial had "showed for the first time that rotavirus vaccination can prevent severe diarrhoea in an African setting, where almost half of the total global burden of rotavirus deaths occur".
