A British Olympian travelled to Trinidad to present degree certificates to business students to highlight the importance of international partnerships in higher education. Steve Cram, an Olympic silver medallist in the 1500 metres and chancellor of the University of Sunderland, made the presentation during a degree ceremony at the School of Business and Computer Science in the Trinidadian town of Tunapuna. The graduating students had taken business-studies programmes in Trinidad through an affiliation with Sunderland Business School. "The impact of our transnational programmes on the university's robust economic performance is pivotal, particularly at a time of restraints from UK government funding sources," Mr Cram said.
