Researchers have drawn up new maps to show the competing claims of Argentina and the UK for resources in the South Atlantic and the Southern Ocean. The maps, drawn by academics at Durham University, follow the discovery of oil near the Falkland Islands by British company Rockhopper Exploration. Argentina and Britain went to war over sovereignty of the Falklands in 1982 and Argentina maintains its territorial claims. Martin Pratt, director of research at the university's International Boundaries Research Unit, said: "The map highlights the complications that exist in determining the claims for resources."
