A grant of £45,000 has opened up an archive of recorded sound material in Scotland. The University of Aberdeen received the gift from Biffaward - a fund managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts - and will use it to construct a listening room in the special collections centre of its new library, to be completed in September 2011. The room will allow historical recordings to be brought to life, including the Lives in the Oil Industry archive, which features interviews with important figures in the Scottish energy business.
