A successful entrepreneur who said that studying electrical engineering "changed his life" has made a gift worth £1 million to his alma mater. Roger Whorrod, who graduated from the University of Bath 40 years ago, followed his bachelor's and master's degrees by setting up a number of engineering businesses in the West Midlands. The 68-year-old said that he and his wife Sue had formed a strong bond with the university and wished to help future generations of researchers. The couple's donation, announced last week, was boosted by matched government funding and Gift Aid, increasing its value by 50 per cent to just over £1 million.
