An iPhone application developed by an academic that allows users their own symphonic experience based on movement has been nominated for a major award. Researcher Phill Phelps, from the University of the West of England's Bristol Institute of Technology, helped develop Satsymph, which uses an iPhone app to turn GPS coordinates into an "overlapping sound world" of symphonic textures and spoken-word recordings. The project is one of five finalists nominated for the PRS for Music Foundation's New Music Award, the winner of which will be announced in September.
